Hey Nick,

I have been reading your stuff for a while now. You offer such great insight that you just simply don't have to share. To me, that must show a lot about you as a person.

I love your posts, always super relevant and honest. As I am growing in this field, I would much rather be presented with practical and real advice than fluff.

Just wanted to say thanks for what you are doing...I'm sure impacting a lot of young photographers.

great post Nick! I think there is a flip side to this though. It is definitely important for us as the photographers to make sure and define our expectations. For example differentiating between an assistant and a second shooter. When I hire someone as a second shooter for a wedding I don't want them anywhere near me. Getting the same images as me does me no good! On the contrary, when I bring them along as an assistant I don't want them out of my sight! Making sure your help knows what you want from them is a definite must! So I say... Photographers... define your expectations... clearly... before the shoot. It just makes sense.

loved this... and what Kyle said... knowing what the photographer expects is huuuge! Also, something I think is sooo vital... is as a photographer actually having a desire to teach and disciple someone else. Losing the competitive attitude and pouring your own gifts and insight into them... there's nothing worse than assisting someone...working your butt off for free and them only caring about their own agenda and getting annoyed anytime you ask any questions. It definately goes both ways!
